Draft 802.11n

Draft 802.11n is the precursor to what will be Standard 802.11n. With speeds of up to 14 times faster and a range that is of up to 6 times farther than standard 802.11g, draft 802.11n has numerous advantages in both the consumer and business marketplace.

Multiple-In/Multiple-Out (MIMO) Technology

Draft 802.11n uses multiple antennas to maximize MIMO technology, transmitting and receiving digital data in tandem. This effectivly increases both data transfer rates as well as overall range.

The Possibilities

As the home and business turn towards the convergence era of networking, a high throughput wireless network will become essential. IP based telephony (VoIP), Internet Video-on-Demand services (such as Slingbox, iTunes, YouTube, and Google Video), intense online and network gaming, the streaming of HD content from your PC onto your TV, and high-speed Internet (including Fiber-to-the-Home) are all readily available today. To tackle the new world of graphic intensive, high capacity files, utilizing draft 802.11n and future standard 802.11n will become a neccessity.

Standard 802.11n Update

The standardization of 802.11n has continuously been delayed since its inception in January of 2004. The conclusion of its last meeting in March 2007 has push the timeline for ratification to Sept 2008.

Compatibility

Draft 802.11n is compatible with both 802.11g and 802.11n, and is designed to accomodate any future versions of a standard 802.11n.
