Media Server and Client

Media Servers are devices that can ‘serve’ up, or deliver digital content such as music, videos and photos, to the network or other network devices.

Media Clients are those devices on the networks that receives digital content from media servers and can play back videos or music, for instance. Clients request information from the server.

For example:

To watch photos on your PC from the comfort of your living room, a client, such as the D-Link DSM-510 Wireless Media Player forwards your request to a server, such as your computer or a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, where your photos, music, and video are stored. The content from your PC or NAS device are then streamed to the client, the DSM-510, which are then displayed for you on TV.
