Wired: What Do I Need?

If you decided to go with setting up a wired network, here is a list of network devices that you need to get your network up and running.

To start, you will need:

  • Broadband Modem - Cable, DSL, or Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH)
    When you subscribe for broadband Internet service some ISPs will provide you with their own broadband modem at a "rental" cost. Other ISPs allow you to purchase your own modem, but you must make sure that the ISP supports the modem you buy.
  • Router
    A router is the networking device that lets you share an Internet connection with multiple devices.
