What is an "IP Address"? An IP address represents your computer’s location on the network. Let’s say if you were looking for a house on a street, you would usually refer to the house address to find it. In the same way, an IP address for a computer helps other computers locate it on the network. A typical network for example, can be your company’s LAN or the Internet WAN. IP Addresses contain four sets of numbers (from 0 to 255) separated by periods. For example, the IP Address for the computer shown below is:
