What is DNS?

In explaining the computer language (7 Layer OSI Model) and modes of communication (IP, TCP/IP) we have referred to a web page example.

And that brings us to DNS. What exactly is DNS?

DNS stands for Domain Name Service. A domain name is an easy way to remember web page addresses. A DNS Server keeps track of the IP addresses for domain names (Web page addresses), such as:

Domain Name IP Address
dlink.com 64.7.210.132
redcross.org 162.6.217.197
ucla.edu 169.232.55.135
